Contanda LLC’s president and CEO, G.R. “Jerry” Cardillo kicked off the 2017 Commerce Club series of educational luncheons on Thursday, January 12, hosted by the Greater Houston Port Bureau at Brady’s Landing. Cardillo’s remarks centered on the Contanda story and how the company looks to progress with their growth strategy into expanded product lines.

Commenting on the directional shift in his career from Enterprise Products to Westway Terminals, now Contanda LLC, Cardillo shared he was “ready for change and wanted to take a good company and make it great”. Since he became president of the company in April 2016, Westway Terminals has rebranded to Contanda and moved its headquarters from New Orleans to Houston. Additionally, Contanda acquired the steel terminal, Inbesa America, in November.

“I’m frequently asked ‘why Contanda’,” explained Cardillo. “We wanted our rebranding to reflect our whole new team and an online search revealed that it a unique domain name! It’s not mentioned in Wikipedia. It gives us the opportunity to make the name mean something.” Cardillo added that another question he’s often asked is if Contanda is for sale. “We’re on a journey,” he stipulated. “We are not for sale.”
Cardillo named technology as a significant factor that has “optimized” contemporary transportation plans in the logistics industry. He applauded the efficiencies of working in Port Houston, particularly in comparison with other ports. “The synchronized support system makes moving commodities work … Port Houston is a stellar performer.”

Cardillo shared several of his personal “keys to success”, summing up his thoughts with “never let success get to your head or failure get to your heart.” A Q & A session followed with Cardillo answering thought-leader style questions about impact of his previous experiences on his career today.
