Advocacy Board Promotes Port Region Value

The Port Bureau’s Advocacy Board has been actively engaging to promote the greater Houston port region through public relations, collateral materials, the Port Bureau News magazine, and through all our digital communications. The Advocacy Board secured, developed, and communicated messaging to the Port Bureau’s member companies that contains confirmed facts and figures for response to the perception that the Houston Ship Channel is congested and cannot provide sufficient services. The pocket card shown left was created and distributed to all members, with the option for free copies or to replace the cover photo with their own company images.

At the May Board of Directors meeting, expenditure approval was authorized for a Businesswire account for the year. Members will soon see press releases supporting the port of Houston’s assets that provide unmatched capacity, flexibility, and reliability to shippers. The Advocacy Board has also taken an active role in communicating with editors and analysts in the last few months. Reporters from the Houston Chronicle and Platts have attended the Commerce Club luncheons and regularly followed up by writing articles in their publications.

Lastly, the Port Bureau has increased our social media presence by posting events, speaking engagements, member news (forward your company news to alavorgna@txgulf.org to be included), timely topics, and other pertinent facts. Our LinkedIn account followers have grown 35% since October, with the top five country followers being:United States, United Kingdom, India,China and the Netherlands. Twitter followers have also increased greatly.

The Advocacy Board continues to seek more opportunity to share the value message of Houston’s port region and its economic impact to the nation. If you are interested in attending our meetings, want to help further promote the port region, or would like to submit your company news, please email alavorgna@txgulf.org.
