The 10th Annual Captain’s Cup Golf Tournament
The most superb weather in months welcomed golfers at the Port Bureau’s tenth Captain’s Cup Golf Tournament on October 29 at BraeBurn Country Club. From first tee to last putt on BraeBurn’s beautiful rolling greens, it was a day replete with comradery and excellent sport.
The top honors of the day went to the team from Coating Systems. Winning first place gross were Coating Systems’ team mates Zach Ravenberg, Donny Cole, Jarrett Phillips, and Chase Barnes. First place net went to Scott Marr, David Ellett, Steve Arnold, and David Arnold from HDR Engineering.
The Captain’s Cup tournament presents several contests for aspiring champions, including closest-to-the-pin, hole-in-one, and longest drive. Players had two chances at hole-in-one prizes this year, but no one hit an ace. Jimmy Smith, Matt Maggio, and Jeff William won closest-to-the-pin, and carrying away the prize for longest drive was Dee Hunt.
New this year to the event, was the CAPT Bill Diehl range target. The range target was a crowd-pleaser, with teams taking a careful aim at the target. (See the photo, along with CAPT Diehl’s thoughts on its popularity in the Captain’s Corner) Remarkably, the only on-target hit was from the Richardson Companies team!
The Port Bureau extends hearty congratulations to the Captain’s Cup winners and thanks all the players for an outstanding day of sport. In addition to our generous sponsors, we would also like thank the Golf Committee for their hard work: Tim Studdert (Shamrock Marine), Brad Maxcey (Danners, Inc.), Michael Ruffino (Mobilease), Karl Schrӧder (Schrӧder Marine Services), Jamie Sylvester (Briggs & Veselka Co.), and McKenzie VanHoy (BB&T Branch Banking).
The Captain’s Cup sells out quick each year. If you or your company is interested in participating in the 2019 tournament, please send an email to email@example.com to receive updates.
